The San Diego Humane Society provides comprehensive animal control services for the City of San Marcos. From dog licensing and microchipping to reuniting lost pets with their owners, SDHS is here to help. Other services include animal adoptions, educational programs and investigating concerns or complaints about animals.

Common animal control concerns
Animal licensing
- All dogs aged four months or older must have a valid license and wear it at all times. Proof of rabies vaccination is required to obtain a license.
- SDHS partners with DocuPet to make pet licensing easy. Licenses can be purchased or renewed online at sandiego.docupet.com.

- Dogs must be leashed at all times unless in a designated off-leash area or confined to a residence or backyard.
