What is the Housing Element?
The Housing Element is one of seven state-mandated elements of the City's general plan and provides the City with a coordinated and comprehensive strategy for promoting the production of safe, decent and affordable housing for all community residents.
Overall, the housing element assesses the existing and projected housing needs of all community economic segments, while identifying areas that could accommodate new housing development. Additionally, the housing element presents goals, policies and implementation programs for the preservation, improvement and development of housing.
The City of San Marcos 2013-2021 Housing Element was adopted by the City Council on June 25, 2013 and certified by the Department of Housing and Community Development on July 15, 2013.
