Affordable Rental Housing
Affordable rental housing developments located in the City of San Marcos are owned and operated by private housing developers. The City of San Marcos is not directly involved in the leasing and management of these properties.
For information about availability and eligibility requirements, please contact each affordable housing development directly. Please note that most developments have waiting lists due to the high demand for affordable housing.
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher ProgramNamed after a section of the National Housing Act, this HUD funded program subsidizes the rents of qualified low-income tenants to affordable levels. In general, to be eligible for Section 8 housing, a household's income may not exceed 50% of the area median income (AMI) adjusted for household size. The most common Section 8 assistance today is "tenant-based" and is provided through the Section 8 Certificate and Voucher Programs.
For San Marcos residents, the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is administered by the County of San Diego Housing Authority. If you are interested in learning about portability to or from San Marcos, please contact the County of San Diego.
