Information Technology & Geographic Information Systems
The Information Technology (IT) team includes an IT Manager, a Network Analyst, a Software Analyst and a GIS Analyst. The IT team is responsible for operation of the City’s enterprise-wide technology infrastructure, Voice, Video, Data network, Internet access, audio and video equipment as well as new technology implementation, maintenance and support of software applications.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is one of the primary responsibilities of the IT division. GIS services consist of utilizing a state-of-the-art GIS system to maintain the city’s Geodatabase and developing maps and applications as well as integration with other databases and software applications.
Provide excellent levels of support to our clients while increasing performance and decreasing costs, in order to maximize the impact of technology on the City's overall delivery of service and value to the public.
IT provides technical support for the City of San Marcos and San Marcos Fire Department. The City’s network interconnects nine public facilities using a network of Fiber Optics & PTP Wireless Technology.
The City has developed and owns a network of wireless and fiber optics to support the Voice, Video and Data services between the nine facilities. The City’s network is comprised of 30 servers, 200 desktop PCs, 40 printers, 30 laptops, 250 phones, wireless / WiFi hot spots, email and Internet services, Web site, Web streaming, voice and data network and a network of surveillance camera system.
IT forms a partnership with departments to assess departmental technology requirements and plan for the implementation, setup and maintenance of the appropriate hardware/software solutions to be procured, set-up and maintained.
