Steps for practicing massage in San Marcos

1) Become certified by California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC)

Every person performing massage in the City of San Marcos whether at an establishment or as an outcall service, must be certified by the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC).

The California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) accepts applications for massage therapists.  Please visit CAMTC for more information or to verify a certificate holder.

2)  Know your requirements.

All massage businesses must adhere to and be in compliance with Chapter 5.44 of the San Marcos Municipal Code. Whether you are an existing, new or outcall massage business, be sure to know what requirements apply.

3) Get a license.

Establishments: A Massage Establishment License and Business License are required for all massage establishments.

Independent Contractors: If a therapist is practicing as an independent contractor, the individual must get a City of San Marcos business license

Outcall: An Outcall Massage License and Business License are required for any CAMTC Therapist performing outcall massage.

Do you use massage services?

If you use the services of a massage therapist, including foot massage and energy healing, please ask to see their CAMTC ID Card before agreeing to services.   If you believe someone is practicing massage without the proper certification or license, notify the City of SanMarcos by reporting a concern through the City's online Report a Concern portal.  For the "Concern Type," select “Business License.”
