What are public improvements?

Public improvements involve work within existing and proposed public streets and easements for infrastructure intended to serve the public. Improvements include, but are not limited to, street construction, utility installation and maintenance, traffic signals, striping, trails, and Community Facilities District landscaping.

Why are public improvements required?

Public improvements are required to meet city adopted standards and specifications and are subject to review and approval. Most public improvements projects are associated with a land entitlement and/or tentative map and are required as a mitigation measure.

Private improvements should not be installed within city easements or public streets. An encroachment permit may be granted at the discretion of the City Engineer in special circumstances.
