Safety reminders ahead of time change and Halloween

Post Date:10/31/2025 6:00 AM

As San Marcos heads into Halloween and the end of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, November 3, the City is reminding residents to stay alert on roads, trails, and in neighborhoods, especially during evening hours when visibility decreases.

With more families walking and biking for Halloween festivities and earlier evening darkness after the time change, residents are encouraged to take extra caution to help keep our community safe.

Safety Tips for Drivers

  • Slow down in neighborhoods and near crosswalks

  • Watch for children and families crossing streets

  • Avoid distractions and keep phones put away

  • Turn on headlights

For Pedestrians, Cyclists, and E-Bike Riders

  • Wear bright or reflective clothing

  • Use front and rear lights on bicycles and e-bikes

  • Follow traffic rules and ride predictably

  • Pedestrians, use sidewalks and crosswalks when available

  • Stay alert and watch for turning vehicles

The City encourages everyone to plan ahead, stay aware, and help ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween weekend and transition into shorter daylight hours.
