 About the Census

Every 10 years since 1790, Americans participate in the Census.  The U.S. census counts every resident in the United States. All of us get counted. And we all count.

As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, our nation gets just one chance each decade to count its population. The data collected by the census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives (a process called apportionment) and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities.

For more information about the 2020 Census, please check out the US Census Bureau or CA Census.

How can I fill out the questionnaire?

While the 2020 Census will be the first to rely heavily on online responses, you will still be able to fill out the questionnaire by phone, by mail, or at a community run assistance center, before someone comes to your residence.
