The property management and administration function of the real property services division manages the City’s growing lease portfolio, administers contracts with vendors, leases park caretaker residences and assists the facilities maintenance group by serving as the central point of contact for all service requests.
Property management staff is available to answer questions on leasing availability at city owned properties.
San Marcos owns commercial, industrial and residential properties throughout the city, including the Creekside Marketplace shopping center. This unique aspect of city government allows for a significant and steady stream of non-tax revenue, which is used to support general services such as recreation programs, parks and law enforcement activities.
The real property services division has as its mission to manage the City’s extensive real property and leasing interests through professional and effective property management and facilities maintenance practices. The division was created, in part, to fulfill the intent of Section 203 of the San Marcos City Charter. Under the charter, which serves as a city’s constitution, the city should engage in enterprises that “produce revenues for the general fund or any other fund established by the City Council to promote a public purpose.”
The City’s leasing portfolio currently represents the one of largest sources of income for the City and the largest source of non-tax revenue, which is then used to provide key public services.
Real property services staff is dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service to the public, tenants of city-owned properties and City staff.
