Now hiring seasonal San Marcos Aquatics staff
With summer quickly approaching, San Marcos Aquatics is looking for seasonal lifeguards, head guards, swim instructors and cashiers to watch over city pools for summer 2017. Applications will be accepted through March 28.
“San Marcos lifeguarding offers a chance to become part of an exciting team that helps people safely enjoy the water,” said Aquatics Supervisor Cheryl Salazar.
With a schedule of about 20 hours per week, pay starts at $11.05 an hour.
“With so many great summer camps, swim lessons and special events planned, it is important to make sure we have qualified and trained staff on deck now,” continued Salazar.
Benefits of lifeguarding include becoming a community leader, making a difference, saving lives and meeting new friends in a
fun, poolside work environment. As trained first responders, San Marcos lifeguards can also participate in the San Marcos Fire Department mentorship program and earn first-round interview opportunities for qualified EMT candidates creating unique career development opportunities.
In order to qualify for a position, interested applicants must be at least 15 years of age, successfully pass a skills test and interview, hold current certifications, be able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes using only the legs and complete a timed weighted object retrieval, as is done for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training prerequisites.
Applicants for the Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor and Head Guard must hold current certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel or be certified under the latest Lifeguard Training program released by the American Red Cross. Lifeguard training opportunities begin on March 4, April 3 and April 10. Register for one of these courses at www.san-marcos.net/register.
