Celebrate a new park in town on March 15
City to officially celebrate the opening of its 34th park, Richmar Park
After weather delays, the City of San Marcos is happy to announce that the Richmar Park opening celebration has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 15 at 5 pm, 110 Richmar Avenue.
Open to the public, the free event will feature a dedication ribbon cutting, live music by Bobby Sanchez Combo, lawn games hosted by the San Marcos Boys and Girls Club, and arts and crafts hosted by the city’s youth programs. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided by Mr. Taco and Neighborhood Eatery for the first 250 guests. Guests are encouraged to carpool and bring chairs or blankets for lawn seating.
“It’s wonderful to add another important park that makes the quality of life better here in our great city,” said Community Services Director Buck Martin. “Richmar Park creates a fun and safe space for all of our residents, visitors and students that often walk through the Richmar area to and from school.”
Taking less than one year to complete, Richmar Park is a 1.8-acre park that features a children’s play area, picnic and social spaces, walking paths, a performance area, and a central shade structure.
“I’m proud that San Marcos is leading the way in creating quality parks for our City,” said Martin.
Funded by a $2 million statewide parks grant, this new park will add to the city’s 34 parks and brings to the total developed parkland space in San Marcos to 275 acres.
