2017 Education Forum Invitation

Biennial Education Forum returns to San Marcos on Sept. 6

Officials will gather for an open dialogue about the emerging opportunities in education

Creating a stronger future for education through emerging opportunities in San Marcos from kindergarten through  college will be addressed on Wednesday, September 6 from 6 to 7:30 pm in a special forum that brings together the San Marcos Mayor and leaders of the San Marcos Unified School District, Palomar College and Cal State San Marcos.
Held every two years, the forum offers a unique opportunity for the community to hear from three key school system leaders --- K-12, community college and state university --- that together serve
more than 60,000 students in the North County region.
“The forum gives policy makers at the City and at our major educational institutions a chance to come together to share ideas, plans and aspirations for the future of education in San Marcos," Desmond said.
Key challenges include strategically developing the area's educational strengths that have made San Marcos a hub for learning and training a workforce that will meet future economic needs.  Leaders also will talk about plans to maintain San Marcos as the educational hub of North County.
Dr. Karen Haynes, president of California State University San Marcos; Dr. Joi Lin Blake, president of Palomar College, and Melissa Hunt, superintendent of the San Marcos Unified School District, will participate in a moderated panel focused on emerging opportunities, challenges and what's new on their campuses and with their curriculum.
The free forum, "Emerging Opportunities," will be held at California State University San Marcos’ McMahan House. The university is located off of Craven Road and S. Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos. Free parking will be provided for attendees in Parking Lot B with signs guiding guests to the event. Light refreshments will be served.
The forum will be re-broadcast at a later date on San Marcos Community Television
as well as on the City's web site. For more information, please visit or contact Communications Officer Sarah Macdonald at (760) 744-1050 or
